Nambooze Leads District Stakeholders Retreat to Enhance Education Service Delivery in Mpigi District

August 17, 2023 | Entebbe Post

In a proactive effort to address the decline in education standards, Hon. Teddy Nambooze, the Woman Member of Parliament for Mpigi District, has spearheaded a collaborative retreat involving various stakeholders within the district. The focus of this retreat is to strategize and implement measures aimed at rejuvenating education service delivery not only in Buwama Sub County but also across the entirety of Mpigi District.

Mpigi District, once a paragon of academic excellence in the nation, has experienced a steady decline in its educational ranking over the past two decades, prompting concerns from local leaders. In light of this disconcerting trend, Hon. Teddy Nambooze rallied key stakeholders for a strategic meeting at the Buwama Sub County Headquarters. The venue also serves as the administrative hub for the Bunjako Islands in Lake Victoria, emphasizing the importance of addressing these pressing issues.

During the deliberations, Hon. Teddy Nambooze emphasized that the three pivotal components for enhancing education quality are the collaboration between teachers, parents, and students themselves. She expressed optimism that through effective collaboration, the district's education sector can be revitalized, echoing the sentiment that cooperation can undo the damaging trend that has befallen the district.

Accompanying Hon. Nambooze were the Sub County Chairperson, Frank Kasule, representatives from school management committees, parent-teacher associations, head teachers, the District Education Officer, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and the technical team from the sub county. Together, they brainstormed strategies to improve the education landscape within the district.

"In every way, there should be healthy competition with schools across the nation. Hence, we must prioritize the education sector in our district," stated Nambooze, emphasizing the need to elevate education as a cornerstone of development.

Among the resolutions reached during the meeting, school principals committed to providing lunch for school-going children and supplying them with uniforms. Additionally, the meeting attendees agreed on measures to motivate teachers and enhance their performance. To ensure equitable distribution of experienced educators, the consensus was to implement a system of transferring teachers who have spent significant time at one school, akin to the practice with head teachers.

Recognizing the importance of teacher-student interaction, stakeholders also concurred on increasing the number of teachers in various schools, aiming to facilitate more focused engagement and deeper understanding of subjects.

This is not the first instance where Hon. Nambooze has taken proactive measures to elevate education standards in the district. Her previous efforts have included securing bursaries for economically disadvantaged children, enabling them to access quality education. Over 800 children have already benefited from her initiatives, further underscoring her dedication to enhancing the educational landscape within Mpigi District.

As Hon. Teddy Nambooze and local stakeholders continue to champion these improvements, there is renewed hope for a resurgence in educational excellence in the district. Their collaborative approach and dedication to education are expected to catalyze positive change for the benefit of students, parents, and the community as a whole.
