The by-election was necessitated by the untimely demise of the former Hoima District chairperson, Kirungi Kadiri, aged 47, and his 25-year-old bodyguard, PC Bosco Otim. The tragic incident occurred on Friday, March 18, around 10 pm at Mataagi village, Bukomero Town Council, along the Hoima-Kampala highway.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, the PRO of the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate, provided insight into the accident. The fatal collision transpired when a Prado Land Cruiser with registration number UAH 053Q, occupied by Kirungi Kadiri, was heading towards Kampala. It collided head-on with a Fuso Truck bearing the registration number UBB 059Z. The truck was transporting pavers and was en route from Kampala to Kiboga. The truck driver, yet to be identified, fled the scene after the accident.

The tragic incident serves as a somber backdrop to Mugisha Uthman Mubarak's victory in the Hoima District chairperson elections. As he assumes this pivotal role, the people of Hoima District will undoubtedly look to him for leadership and direction in the days ahead.
