UNRA starts restoration works at Karuma Bridge

The Uganda National Roads authority (UNRA) has revealed that it will start off emergency restoration works on a section of Karuma bridge  that was destroyed yesterday by a truck that plunged into the over speeding river. 

The truck driver who has been identified as Tumusiime James who was driving a SINO truck UAT  113F and two other occupants were all swept away and efforts to retrieve the wreckages is still on ongoing. 

A team from the UNRA Masindi branch has been dispatched to restore the destroyed protective rails according to Allan Ssempebwa the UNRA media relations manager. 

Karuma bridge has been at the spotlight of many minor accidents overtime including one last week where a truck broke off the protective rails. 

Area residents pray that government constructs a standard bridge with strong protective rails to reduce on the high cases of accidents at the bridge.
