KAMPALA - In a significant political development, Mr. Okitoi Robert Erisat, the General Secretary of the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) in Amuria district, officially crossed party lines today to join the National Resistance Movement (NRM). This move was warmly welcomed by the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, during a ceremony held at the NRM headquarters on Plot 10, Kyadondo Road in Nakasero.

During the event, Secretary General Todwong handed over key NRM documents, including the party's constitution, manifesto, and branded shirts, symbolizing Okitoi's official induction into the ruling party. The gesture was accompanied by an encouraging message from Todwong, urging Okitoi to thoroughly acquaint himself with the NRM's core principles.

"The items I am offering you confirm that you are a full member of the NRM, and I ask you to read and understand our ideology well," stated SG Todwong. He further congratulated Okitoi on his decision to join NRM, saying, "I congratulate you on this wise move to join us. You are welcome and feel at home."

In response, Mr. Okitoi expressed his reasons for switching allegiance, emphasizing his belief in NRM's vision for the future. "The sober decision I have taken is informed by the good things I see in the NRM," Okitoi stated. His decision reflects a growing sentiment that the NRM party, led by President Yoweri Museveni, holds the promise of a prosperous future for Uganda.

This political shift is expected to have far-reaching implications, not only in Amuria district but also within the broader political landscape of Uganda. As Mr. Okitoi brings his experience and influence to the NRM, it may further solidify the party's position as a dominant force in the region.

The move also highlights the ever-evolving nature of political alliances and the importance of individual convictions in shaping Uganda's political scene. Mr. Okitoi's transition from UPC to NRM demonstrates the dynamism of political affiliations in the country and underscores the significance of party ideologies in influencing these shifts.

As Mr. Okitoi embarks on this new political journey with the NRM, all eyes will be on how this decision will impact the future political discourse and dynamics, not only in Amuria district but also across Uganda as a whole.
