Uganda mourns the loss of one of its beloved talents, Evelyn Nakabira Lagu, as she succumbed to her prolonged battle with chronic kidney disease. Evelyn Lagu was a prominent figure in the Ugandan music and film industry, known for her captivating performances and melodious voice. Early Life and Education

Evelyn Nakabira Lagu was born on June 1, 1982, in what was then known as the Masaka District, now called the Kalungu District. Sadly, she lost her parents at a young age, never having the chance to know her father. Following her parents' passing, she moved to Mityana, where she was raised by her aunt, a midwife, and her husband. Evelyn Lagu pursued her education at institutions such as Aga Khan, Mityana SS, Pride SS Mityana for O' Levels, and St. Peter's Busubizi, where she completed her A' Levels in 1999.

A Rising Star in Music and Film

Evelyn Lagu's musical journey saw her collaborate with renowned artists like the late Carol Nakimera, Halima Namakula, Ragga Dee, Makoma, and Mampi from Zambia. She also showcased her talent with bands like Mustard and Flash.

Health Struggles and Gospel Music

In the midst of her successful career, tragedy struck as Evelyn Lagu battled kidney problems. In 2020, she turned to gospel music, releasing her first gospel song titled "Testimony" as an expression of gratitude to the Almighty for saving her life. She underwent medical treatment at Nakasero Hospital, with the medical bills covered by the generosity of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, thanks in part to the advocacy of Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, an events organizer.

Family and Personal Life

Evelyn Lagu was a loving mother to her son, Marvin Mulumba, who achieved academic excellence by scoring a division one on the 2019 O' Level exams, a source of great pride for his mother. Although she had a child, Evelyn was not married at the time of her passing.

She was previously married to Tony Lagu, a South Sudanese tycoon residing in Juba. Despite not being legally married, she adopted the Lagu name. Unfortunately, their relationship ended due to reported issues of infidelity.

The passing of Evelyn Nakabira Lagu is a profound loss to Uganda's entertainment industry and her fans worldwide. Her music and talent will be remembered, and her legacy will continue to inspire aspiring artists for generations to come.
